What happens to older books?

When we find titles that are not used, do not fit the curriculum, or are available in a different format, we may select these titles for de-accessioning, more commonly called “weeding”. We then work with a vendor, Better World Books, to resell our no longer desired books. They sell them to others and with the money support literacy efforts and give us some desired revenue. How much? That depends on what gets sold, but from July 2011 to date we have received $6,000. We use this money to purchase needed replacements, electronic versions of titles, and enhance our collections to support the curriculum.
